In this age of environmental awareness, retailers and food producers are under pressure to examine more ways of reducing their packaging material and improving their packaging methods. Using carton board offers the most effective all-round sustainable option for packaging.

Kliklok Woodman, designer & manufacturer of packaging machinery, and Korsnas, carton board producers, recently undertook a joint venture to carry out automatic wraparound sleeving trials using Korsnas Supreme 250 micron / 200gsm board.  Being recyclable and extremely lightweight virgin board, Korsnas Supreme offers considerable environmental benefits & potential cost advantages over conventional White Lined Chipboard (WLC) and Folding Box Board (FBB) solutions which typically use in the region of 400micron/250gsm or even heavier board.

The trials were done on Klikloks Certiwrap C150 wraparound cartoner, which was proven to comfortably and efficiently handle this lightweight board at speeds of up to 150 cartons per minute, sleeving ready meal trays.

The combination of Kliklok packaging expertise and Korsnas carton board knowledge produced excellent trial results a further step towards more sustainable packaging solutions whilst reducing wastage and weight of packaging, improving productivity and maximising profit.
